Family Survives One Fire, Loses Dog In Second Fire

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A family that lost its home in the large Castle West Apartment fire in Colorado Springs in January 2007 has been burned out of its home again.Lacey and Joe Stahl were living in a home on Monteagle Street in Colorado Springs until it caught on fire Wednesday.According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, a baby sitter rushed the couple's 2-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter out of the house after flames engulfed the back porch.
All made it out safety, but two dogs, including one that survived the Castle West fire, are believed to be dead.Mitzi, a 3-year-old dog, was found alive by firefighters the day after the Castle West blaze. It appears the dog died in this fire.Firefighters found the family's other dog, Jasmine, dead in a bedroom.The Gazette reported the baby sitter saw small flames break out in the backyard barbecue pit Wednesday, and soon, the back porch was engulfed in flames.The fire gutted much of the two-story home and the roof collapsed.The Castle West apartment fire destroyed all 135 units of the complex in Uintah Street, killing two people and leaving hundreds homeless.
