PIÑON CANYON MANEUVER SITE, Colo. -- The wildfire that started on the Army training site in southeastern Colorado is 100 percent contained. The last stretch of line to contain the fire was finished early Sunday morning, two weeks after it broke out. Fort Carson spokeswoman Karen Linne said wildland firefighters will continue to monitor the area. She said some areas may continue to smolder for several weeks and residents may see some smoke.
Fort Carson has said lightning started the fire on June 8th. It spread to surrounding ranch land later that week and scorched a total of about 46,000 acres.
