Lighted highway message boards in Colorado displayed the vehicle description and license number of a 17-year-old University of Colorado student who was the focus of an Amber Alert issued Friday morning.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation said the Amber Alert for Ryan Paul Witte was cancelled 8 hours later because Louisville Police determined that Witte was most likely not abducted. .

He still has not yet been located.

Witte was last seen Thursday morning leaving Louisville en route to the CU-Boulder campus. He never arrived for classes, and did not show up for a piano lesson that was scheduled Thursday.

Witte is described as a white male who's 5-foot-10 and weighs approximately 130 pounds. He has short sandy brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a brown and green polo paisley shirt and green shorts, and white New Balance athletic shoes.

Witte was driving a 1996 Subaru Outback described as dark forest green over grey. The car has tinted windows, a "Thule" bike rack, and Colorado license plate 912 EMD.

CU police are worried about Witte's medical condition because he has a collapsed lung. Authorities say they have looked everywhere for him but have not located the teen.

The Amber Alert system is named in honor of Amber Hagerman, a Texas girl killed in 1996. The program, used to quickly disseminate information about a missing child through news media and other outlets, is used in more than a dozen states.
