Fire officials said that the fire that has charred nearly 46,000 acres on the Piñon Canyon Army training site is now 75 percent contained.

Fire crews continue to patrol the contained areas of the fire and are working to contain parts of the eastern perimeter.

According to officials, the fire was started by lightning on June 8. So far, no injuries have been reported and no structures burned.

The military said Monday's high humidity and low temperatures helped firefighters battling the blaze in southeastern Colorado.

Two helicopters, three water tenders and 14 engines and six hand crews are involved in fighting the fire.

Fire areas that are considered contained may continue to smolder for several weeks. Residents can expect to continue to see smoke.
