BOULDER, Colo. -- The Denver archdiocese says the Roman Catholic priest convicted of indecent exposure for jogging in the nude will remain on leave. The Rev. Robert Whipkey is facing up to 18 months in jail following his conviction this week. He may also be ordered to register as a sex offender which would bar him from living near churches or schools. The 54-year-old was placed on leave last August and isn't allowed to celebrate Mass, officiate at weddings and funerals or counsel parishioners.
Jeanette DeMelo, a spokeswoman for the Denver archdiocese, said Whipkey remains a priest and only the Vatican could take away that title. Before his arrest, Whipkey lead parishes in Frederick, Mead and Erie.
