ASPEN, Colo. -- Teams of Aspen police answered an emergency call Tuesday about an intruder-- a furry one with four legs.A bear apparently walked through an open door on a glass-enclosed porch at a condo on Pitkin Mesa Drive. The condo is on the second floor. The condo owner, Sarah Diamond, told the Aspen Times that she lives next to forest land and commonly sees bears in her yard and nearby trees.
The newspaper reported officers were armed, but were able to toss stones at a window to scare the bear off.Police estimated the bear was a yearling and weighed about 100 pounds.State wildlife officials told 7NEWS bears might be wandering around now because their normal food, including wild berries and acorns, is not ready yet.In 2007, Colorado Division of Wildlife officers euthanized 13 bears, relocated 24 animals and took four cubs to a rehabilitation center.
