BOULDER, Colo. -- Two Boulder friends decided to experiment with the morning commute by riding an inner tube along Boulder Creek to work Friday morning.June is Bike and Walk to Work Month in Boulder. Any Gruel and Jeff Kagan told the Daily Camera they first got the idea to float to work last summer and worked on the idea over the year."I love the idea of another type of commute that doesn't rely on those dastardly fossil fuels," Kagan told the Camera.
Friday morning's voyage was a bit chillier than either had expected. Nonetheless, the two businessmen dressed in suits, waded into the 44-degree water and started heading downstream.Wearing bicycle helmets, the two splashed their way down the creek, at one point taking a brief break to warm up in the sun.Neither made it to work by 9 a.m. Gruel eventually made it to his office. Kagan floated down about 28 blocks before deciding enough was enough and went home to work from there."We'll absolutely do it again," Kagan told the Camera. "But next year we'll go the last Friday in June instead of the first."Video courtesy of the Daily Camera
