Stolen Mail Puts Residents At High Risk For ID Theft

DENVER -- A community mailbox was burglarized early Friday at an Arapahoe County apartment complex and investigators are warning about the possibility of identification theft.The break-in occurred in the early-morning hours at the Highline Terrance Apartments, 8111 E. Yale Avenue, according the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. An unknown amount of mail was taken the community mailbox was pried open.The sheriff's office said that there is a high risk that a stolen identity could soon follow when certain documents are stolen in the mail.
Residents who believe they are at risk for ID theft are advised to: Contact your financial institution and cancel all checks you had in the out-going mail. Regularly monitor your accounts to check for unauthorized activity. Be aware of bills that do not arrive as expected. Check your credit reports.
