Tips From Rocky Mountain Horticulturist, Master Gardener John Cretti

Water restrictions, mandated watering schedules and cut-off watering dates present a major dilemma to Colorado gardeners. With the right plant choices, we can survive this trying period of making our home landscape look good.

John Cretti, Horticulturist and Colorado's Master Gardener shares some of his favorite plant selections that will truly survive the drought conditions and watering restrictions.

  • Blue Mist Spirea - Caryopteris X clandonesis 'Dark Night'
  • Wolfberry - Symphoricarpos occidentalis
  • 'Pink Marleen' Snowberry - Symphoricarpos occidentalis
  • Butterfly Bush 'Dwarf Blue' - Buddleia
  • Euonymus 'Turkenstanica' - Euonymus nanus 'Turkestanicus'
  • 'Calgary Carpet' Juniper - Juniperus sabina

PERENNIAL FLOWERS:
  • Rudbeckia "Goldstrum" - Rudbeckia fulgida var. sullivantii
  • Daylily "Grape Magic" - Hemerocallis sp.
  • Silver Brocade Sage - Artemisia stelleriana "Silver Brocade"
  • Sedum "Autumn Joy" - Sedum spectabilis "Autumn Joy"
  • "Yellow Bloom Broom" - Cytisus decumbens
