DENVER -- A Denver seventh-grader's art project landed her on the world fashion stage after she won a contest to have her design featured on an exclusive label's fall fashion line."When I was younger, I would design clothes, but I look back at them and they're awful," said Ventika Henderson, a student at Denver's Hill Campus of Arts and Sciences.Even if she is her own worst critic, her art teacher said she is one of the best.
"She is an excellent student because she works hard. She works hard because she loves it," said Susan Dickson.Dickson entered one of Henderson's drawings in a contest sponsored by Sheiki Jeans, a designer worn by the rich and famous. The theme was "The Earth Is Green."Henderson's drawing shows a face split in two."It says 'Save the Earth or watch it die. Which would you choose?'" said Henderson.Designer and CEO Sheila Marie said the winner's work will be featured on an eco-friendly T-shirt to be sold around the world."If I can change one child's life that wants to be in fashion or make them feel like an artist, then I would love to be a part of that," she said. All the proceeds from the T-shirt sales will go back to the art department."It's really going to be a windfall for us," said Dickson.
