PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Police in Pensacola, Fla. said they have discovered a body that they now believe is that of 2nd Lt. John H. Alley, a Colorado Springs native and Air Force pilot who's been missing since Saturday.Alley, 26, was stationed at Whiting Field near Pensacola, Florida as a pilot in training. He was a Colorado Springs native and graduated from the Air Force Academy in 2006.Alley's crashed, locked, abandoned 1996 Toyota Corolla was found along the Scenic Highway, near Florida's Escambia Bay Saturday night. Although his wallet, keys, and cell phone were inside the car, there was no sign of Alley.
Pensacola Assistant Chief of Police Chip Simmons told KRDO TV in Colorado Springs that no blood was found inside the vehicle and the accident would not have been life-threatening.Monday morning, a 16-year-old beachcomber saw the body, dressed in a green flight suit, wash ashore about a quarter-mile away from the car's location."It's a sad situation and we've been in contact with the family and the base command," said Simmons. "We're left with a lot of questions and are doing our best to try and answer them."Simmons said that Alley is a newlywed and soon-to-be father who had been living in nearby Milton, Fla.An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday. That will help determine the cause of death and provide an official identification.
