BOULDER, Colo. -- A Longmont youth pastor was sentenced to one year in prison Wednesday after he pleaded guilty to having a three-year sexual relationship with a teenage girl he met at his Longmont church.Peter Kim, 40, will also be on lifetime probation, meaning he must stay away from his three children -- and all children under 18 -- for the rest of his life, according to a report in Thursday's Boulder Daily Camera. The crime occurred while Kim was a youth pastor at Longmont's Central Presbyterian Church between 2001 and 2004. He no longer works at the church.
His attorney earlier called his actions a "bad dating decision."Kim has a previous misdemeanor conviction for having a relationship with a teen he met while working with children at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church a decade earlier. Before sentencing, the woman, who said she was an object of Kim's earlier "grooming" behavior and sexual advances while attending a church youth group in Denver, told the Boulder court, "I will no longer be a victim. I will be a survivor."
