AURORA, Colo. -- Police shot an Aurora woman Wednesday night after officers were called on a report of a woman threatening to kill herself.The call came in shortly before 10 pm. in the 2200 block of South Waco Court.Officers said man said his wife had a gun, and that she was threatening suicide.
When officers attempted to subdue the woman outside the house, they said she pulled a handgun. One officer fired at the woman, striking her in the leg.She was identified by police as Melinda Espinoza, 24.The woman was taken to a local hospital where she was treated and released into police custody.Espinoza is being held on a restraining order violation and an outstanding Arapahoe County traffic warrant..No one else was injured in the incident.Police have not released the name of the officer involved in the shooting and he was placed on routine administrative leave.
