DENVER -- Arvada police detectives are investigating a case where a 3-year-old boy died after apparently choking on a piece of hot dog Friday. The incident happened at a licensed in-home day care facility in the 6800 block of Tabor Court around noon, said Susan Medina of the Arvada Police Department. While the official coroner's report has not yet been completed, initial reports indicate Kyle Cox was eating a cut-up hot dog at a table, while being watched in the home, when a piece of the meat lodged in his airway, Medina said.
The woman providing day care called 911 and began administering first aid to the child. The boy was transported to Lutheran Hospital by paramedics where he was later pronounced dead. While the investigation continues, it appears this was an accidental death, and no charges will be presented to the district attorney, Medina said.A memorial fund has been created in Kyle’s name. For those wanting to contribute, visit any US Bank branch and donate to the Kyle Cox Memorial Fund.
