A 21-year-old tutor at a Grand Junction middle school was arrested Friday after police said he sent an obscene image over a cell phone to a 14-year-old student.

Nefi Madrigal is being held on a $75,000 bond on suspicion of sending obscenity to a minor and Internet sexual exploitation of a child, reported the Grand Junction Sentinel.

Madrigal worked as a Latino Education Achievement to Graduation liaison, said school district spokesman Jeff Kirtland.

According to Madrigal's arrest affidavit, a friend of the victim reported the pictures to the principal who then contacted police.

The reporting student told police the 14-year-old girl showed her several pictures of Madrigal, one of which showed his genitalia. The girl said she knew the pictures came from Madrigal’s phone because the phone displayed his number, the affidavit said.

When interviewed by police, the girl said she had sent several naked pictures of herself to Madrigal and acknowledged she had a crush on him, but said “the flirting stopped after the pictures,” the affidavit said.

The girl said she first sent a picture of herself in a bra on March 30 to Madrigal after he sent a text message to her and asked for a picture.

The next night, the girl and her friend told Madrigal that it was his turn, and that he needed to “show more,” the affidavit said. Madrigal first sent a picture of himself in his boxers and then sent one without any clothes on, the affidavit said.

“(The girl) admitted that she was egging Nefi on,” the affidavit said.

She deleted the photos a few days later, the affidavit said.

Madrigal told police he had sent and received pictures to the girl, but non were inappropriate.

He said he may have mistakenly sent the photos to the girl, but they were intended for his girlfriend in Utah. He said his girlfriend’s name is listed next to the girl’s in his phone book, but police said the girl’s name is listed four names away, the affidavit said.
