An sunny afternoon of flying turned dangerous for a Broomfield man after his plane lost power and he was forced to make a hard landing in a field Saturday.

Mark Johnson, 58, said he was flying his 1956 DeHavilland Venom Airplane around the Valley airport area when the plane lost power.

Johnson landed the plane in an alfalfa field about a half-mile from Weld County Road 18.

While landing, the wheels collapsed, causing the plane to make a hard landing on its belly.

Johnson walked away from the accident unharmed.

The plane was damaged in a small fire.
