GREELEY, Colo. -- After deliberating for 90 minutes, a jury found a Lafayette man guilty of two counts of sexual abuse on a child Tuesday.Charles Ellis was found guilty on charges of sexual assault on a child and sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, both felonies, said Jennifer Finch, spokeswoman for the Weld County District Attorney's Office. He faces a minimum of eight years to life in prison, Finch said, but because this is Ellis' second conviction, he could be tried as a habitual sexual offender.
Ellis was arrested on Sept. 17, 2007, by the Firestone Police Department after police learned of the sexual abuse from the victim’s mother.Police reports stated that the sexual abuse occurred while the victim and his family were living with Ellis in Firestone from June of 2000 to September of 2003. The victim disclosed the sexual abuse to his mother in August of 2007.
