Sen. Barack Obama has picked up the endorsement of superdelegate Roy Romer, a former Colorado governor who later served as superintendent of Los Angeles public schools. Romer was the third superdelegate to throw his support to the Democratic frontrunner Tuesday, after New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin and Indiana U.S. Rep. Joe Donnelly. Romer said it's important for the presidential candidates to know where the superdelegates stand so the party can decided how to handle convention delegates from Michigan and Florida. Both states had their delegates stripped from them for violating party rules.
Romer said Obama has demonstrated leadership qualities with his coolness under fire.Colorado has 14 superdelegates. With Romer's decision, five Colorado superdelegates have now announced their support for Barack Obama. Four have announced their support for Hillary Clinton.Five remain undeclared: Senator Ken Salazar, U.S. Rep. John Salazar, Governor Bill Ritter, U.S. Rep. Mark Udall and Colorado Democratic Party chairwoman Pat Waak. This week one more superdelegate will be named, the likely choice is between current Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and former Denver Mayor Federico Pena.
