COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The woman abducted from a Target parking lot who police found by tracking her cell phone is now in fair condition at a Colorado Springs hospital. The police affidavit has new details about just what happened to 59-year-old Garnett Wright. It says the suspect, Timothy Clapp, 41, shoved Wright into her car in the Target parking lot.
According to the Colorado Springs Gazette, Wright handed Clapp $24 and said, "That's all I have. Now leave me alone."The newspaper goes on to report Clapp forced her to the floor and told her to be quiet. When she screamed as loud as she could, he put his hands over her mouth and said he would drive to the back of the store and let her go.Behind the store, Clapp took a hard object from his backpack and hit Wright several times in the head. She pretended to be unconscious.Clapp then taped her mouth, wrists and ankles with duct tape and covered her with clothes in her back seat. When Clapp parked at an apartment complex on Galley Road, Wright managed to remove the tape and used her cell phone to call for help.Authorities traced her location through the GPS on her cell phone.Clapp is jailed on suspicion of kidnapping, assault, robbery and car theft. He is being held on $50,000 bail. The Colorado Springs Gazette is reporting that court records show Clapp has an extensive criminal history in Colorado, including three convictions for driving under the influence and five for domestic violence.
