'Personhood' Supporters Turn In Petitions

DENVER -- Coloradans may be asked to vote this November on when a "person" becomes a "person."A group called Colorado For Equal Rights has been gathering signatures to get the Human Life Amendment on the ballot.According to the group, it states "(t)he term 'Person' or 'Persons' shall include any human from the time of fertilization."
To get on the November ballot, the group needed 76,047 signatures. It turned in more than 131,000 signatures Tuesday afternoon.The Secretary of State's office has up to 30 days to certify the signatures.7NEWS Reporter Jane Slater said to get the signatures, 1100 volunteers covered 80 percent of counties and 500 churches around the state.Toni Panetta, spokeswoman for an opposition group called the Protect Families Protect Choices Coalition said the measure is vague and could restrict access to health care.
