Motorist Killed, Baby Critical After Wrong-Way I-70 Crash

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo -- One person has died and a baby was in critical condition after a car struck a minivan heading west in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70.The accident happened Monday afternoon in Grand Junction near the 24 Road exit.Police said the driver of a Dodge Caravan traveled the wrong way through a roundabout and drove onto the interstate from an exit ramp.
The van headed west on eastbound I-70 for about three-fourths of a mile before an eastbound Chevrolet Monte Carlo struck it head-on. The driver of the Monte Carlo was killed. The woman driving the van and a baby in the Monte Carlo suffered what police called "substantial" injuries. No names have been released.Emergency workers said the driver of the minivan had to be cut from the vehicle.
