GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. -- A Greenwood Village family spent Mother's Day as a family, thankful for one another after a fire ripped through their single-story home last week. But as the Reiff family stared at what was left of their home, instead of seeing blackened ash, they saw sunlight."It still blows me away that it is gone," said Daphyne Reiff. "But it is only a house. I have the most important things with me here and that is my family."
The fire that destroyed the Reiffs' home started when Rick Reiff's classic Corvette backfired while he was pulling it out of the garage.Within seconds, flames engulfed the house, destroying everything.Family members spoke exclusively with 7NEWS and said it's sad seeing all the damage and destruction, but in the end, it's just stuff."We’ve just got stuff to replace. Bricks and mortar," said Rick Reiff."My home is with me. My family is my home," said Lauryn Reiff.Even though the family survived emotionally and physically, the outpouring of care from the community is humbling to this family."The greatest thing of this whole thing are the people that have all come. People you don't even know coming up and wanting to give," said Jared Reiff."We'll just rebuild and out of the ashes, the phoenix will rise," he said.
