Police: Man Cited For Harassing Sex Offender

BATTLEMENT MESA, Colo. -- A registered sex offender who drives around town with a puppy in his lap and hangs out at schools, parks and soccer games has one man so unnerved he made a public spectacle of himself Wednesday morning outside the Battlement Mesa Activity Center, according to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel.The newspaper reported Travis Metcalf started screaming at Timothy Larsen and telling everyone Larsen is a sex offender.The activity center is temporarily housing a preschool.
Metcalf was issued a citation by police for disorderly conduct.The newspaper said Larsen was convicted of sexual assault on a child in 1997 and spent seven years behind bars. Police said Larsen has no restrictions on where he can live or where he can go, but he must register with local law enforcement.Metcalf told the paper Larsen has been hanging out at the elementary school watching boys go to school, and watching them practice at a nearby soccer field.Metcalf said he plans to distribute fliers with Larsen’s picture and identifying information, and organize a parent watch to raise public awareness.Read more about the story in today's Grand Junction Daily Sentinel.
