Missing Mother Found At Shelter

Mom Took Son To School, Disappeared

POSTED: 10:23 am MDT May 9, 2008
UPDATED: 12:23 pm MDT May 9, 2008

Longmont Police tell 7NEWS Christine Alenezi has been found and is OK.

Alenezi disappeared last Tuesday.

Police said she took her son to school on a public bus and dropped him off.

She always picked up after school, but didn't that day.

Her son was taken into custody by the Department of Social Services.

The Longmont Times is reporting that Alenezi went to a shelter in the Denver metro area. Police wouldn’t give the location, but the newspaper said shelter’s employees recognized Alenezi from media coverage and police bulletins and called to say she had been located.

There's no information on why Alenezi felt she needed shelter.

Published reports last week said she moved to Longmont from Maryland three years ago after her ex-husband threatened to kill her.

Longmont Police Sgt. Tim Lewis said there is a possibility that child-neglect charges could be brought against Alenezi, a misdemeanor that carries either six to 18 months in prison or a $500 to $5,000 fine.

Officers want to know why she left her child.

Alenezi was spotted in Boulder Friday. A friend told police she asked to borrow $40 for groceries.

Another person called police to say he saw her get on a public bus from Boulder to Denver.
