Brighton Man Dies In Westminster Crash, Teen Injured

Police To Investigate Timing Of Traffic Lights

UPDATED: 10:11 am MDT May 9, 2008

Westminster police have released the identity of a 41-year-old Brighton man killed early Thursday when his car was broadsided at West 120th Avenue and Pecos Street.

David Seuper was on his way to work when an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 16-year-old boy, collided with Seuper's northbound Chrysler, police said.

"It's really disturbing to have seen it," said Sarah Scott, who was in the southbound, left turn lane on Pecos when the accident occurred.

"I was waiting to turn and the light was green (for north and southbound left-turn traffic). For some reason, I didn't go and the Tahoe came shooting across and hit the guy in the silver car, and knocked him into another vehicle," Scott said.

The victim was transported to St. Anthony's Central where he was pronounced dead.

Family friends say Seuper was married and had two children. Police say the teen driver received non-life-threatening injuries in the crash, which occurred just before 8:30 a.m.

The boy's father, a Westminster city employee, told 7NEWS that there was no way his son could avoid the collision. He said it was just an accident.

When asked if any charges would be filed in this case, Investigator Stephanie Topkoff of the Westminster Police Department said, "It's too early to make that determination."

"This area is heavily traveled in the morning so we believe there were many people who saw the accident, but didn't have time to stop. We'd like to hear from them," Topkoff said.

Topkoff said police will be checking the timing of the traffic lights to see if there was an issue there. Several nearby office workers told 7NEWS that there was a construction zone at the intersection during the crash.

Police said the construction work was not a factor.
