LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A substitute teacher accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of his students was arrested Friday morning at the school where he teaches.Jon McCarthy, 31, is a substitute teacher as well as a coaching assistant at Lakewood High School.Detectives began their investigation into McCarthy after rumors of the relationship surfaced at the school. The former student attended the school last year.
McCarthy is currently being interviewed by detectives and will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail.He is being held on investigation of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust with a pattern of abuse.Lakewood police are not releasing further details about the case because the alleged victim is a juvenile.
