Fort Collins Knife Attack May Be Gang Motivated

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- Fort Collins police are investigating a stabbing near a bus stop that may be gang motivated.The incident happened late Sunday night in the 1000 block of South Taft Hill Road.Police said Gerald Batrez, 21, of Fort Collins, was walking with a woman and became involved in an altercation with two men and two women. He was stabbed in the abdomen and arm during the fight and was rushed to Medical Center of the Rockies for treatment of his injuries. The women he was with was not hurt.
Two suspects were arrested about two hours later, following an investigation into the attack. They were identified by police as Tranquilino Mercado, 25, and Jessee Martinez, 19.
