DENVER -- The mothers of two homicide victims left an Arapahoe County courtroom in tears Monday as a witness described finding the couple's bodies slumped over in their car.

Javad Marshall Fields and Vivian Wolfe died in a hail of gunfire in June 2005, just days before Fields was scheduled to testify in another murder case.

Sir Mario Owens faces the death penalty if convicted of killing the two. Prosecutors believe that Owens conspired to keep Fields from saying what he knew about the slaying of Gregg Vann in July 2004. Owen's friend Robert Ray was facing charges in the murder case.

Owens' was later implicated in Vann's murder and convicted in that case as well.

In dramatic testimony, jurors heard from a man who raced to the shooting scene and tried to give assistance to the wounded couple. He said he pleaded with Wolfe to "hang on" because help was on the way.

Jurors also heard Jamar Johnson who testified about the street code not to cooperate with police.

Johnson said he was offered money to kill Fields and was also told to offer Fields a $10,000 bribe not to testify.

When asked why he didn't go to police, Johnson said, "It was none of my business."

The trial is expected to last 10 weeks.
