AURORA, Colo. -- The man who survived a fiery car crash thanks to two Good Samaritans has died.Timber Dick was burned over 60 percent of his body in the crash on Saturday, March 29.Dick, son of former Lt. Gov. Nancy Dick, was westbound on Interstate 70 near Floyd Hill when the right front wheel on his minivan locked up.
The van hit a guard rail, flipped over and rolled several times before bursting into flames.Witnesses grabbed a fire extinguisher, ran to Dick's van and put out the flames that were burning Dick.Dick had actually managed to crawl out of the burning wreckage through a broken window.Thursday Dick's family returned to the hospital to thank the doctors and nurses who took care of him.Dick's wife Annette said the extra week was important for the family because it gave them time to talk with him and share their feelings.Dick was a one time candidate for Denver City Council and his wife said he was committed to helping others."Timber really believed that is what our lives are about, giving back and he was at it all the time," she said.Dick was the President of Tendix Development and also worked with the University of Denver's School of Engineering and Computer Science.Dick is survived by his wife, 11 children and two grandchildren.Dick's mother sponsored Colorado's organ donation bill when she served in the Legislature."I did it in honor of Howard Dick.
