DENVER -- Two people were killed and six were injured when a van was broadsided by a pickup truck in Thornton Saturday night. The accident happened at the intersection of North Holly Street and East 160th Avenue. The van rolled onto its side and stopped in a ditch. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, police said.Five adults and four children, including an 18-month-old baby, were inside the van, said Officer Matt Barnes of the Thornton Police Department. Two passengers died at the scene and the others were taken to several area hospitals. The driver of the van was not injured, but he was arrested for not having a valid driver's license, Barnes said.Police believe seven of the nine inside the van were related. The two deceased victims were an adult female, who has not been positively identified, and a 42-year-old male from Commerce City. Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin, Barnes said. The pickup truck was occupied by a 41-year-old Fort Lupton man and his 4-year-old daughter, and they were restrained with seatbelts at the time of the accident.A number of residents told 7NEWS that they have been concerned about the intersection for some time. One man who came to the scene after he heard about Saturday's night crash said that his wife was in a similar crash eight weeks earlier. He said that his wife did not see the stop sign and believes that having a sign warning drivers they are approaching a stop sign could save lives.
