Former Brighton High Teacher Accused In Internet Sex Case

Andrew Weaver Accused Of Sending Video Feed Of His Genitalia

POSTED: 10:00 am MDT April 4, 2008

A former teacher at Brighton High School has a mid-April court date after he allegedly used the Internet to arrange sex with a minor and sent pictures of his genitalia to an undercover investigator.

Andrew Charles Weaver, 28, of Adams County, appeared Thursday in a Mesa County courtroom, where Judge Gretchen Larson set Weaver's bond at $25,000.

Authorities arrested Weaver last month on suspicion of Internet sexual exploitation of a child. He's accused of engaging in sexually explicit conversation with a law enforcement officer posing as a 14-year-old girl, and also of sending live pictures via the Internet of him rubbing his genitalia.

"I told the individual I was shy and reminded him that I was only 14 years old," the investigator said in the affidavit. "The individual told me he was very visual and needed to see nude photographs of me in order for him to get an erection."

"This was one of the less awful cases I've seen out of this sting," said Larson.

Defense attorney Colleen Scissors said Weaver had been teaching for five years, is married for seven years, and has a six-month-old child.

Scissors said Weaver has been fired from his coaching job at Brighton High School.

Weaver will be formally charged on April 16.
