DENVER -- At least three vehicles ran over the body of a driver who was ejected on the highway in a single-car crash Tuesday morning, the Colorado State Patrol said. One of those vehicles, a 1997 Mitsubishi Montero, also rolled and crashed after it hit the body, the CSP said. The CSP does not believe that the drivers knew what they had done. None of the other vehicles stopped, although one driver called the CSP to report that there were rocks on the road, said CSP Master Trooper Ron Watkins.
That call prompted troopers to check out westbound I-70, where they discovered that it was not rocks on the road, but a man's body.Investigators said the man was driving a 1992 Ford Explorer on westbound I-70 when he lost control and rolled at least 1½ times. He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, Watkins said. The CSP closed westbound I-70, near U.S. 40, from 2:15 a.m. until 7:15 a.m. as troopers investigated. The man's identity has not been released. The condition of the driver of the Mitsubishi Montero has not been released.
