Good Samaritans Pull Man From Burning Car
Rescuer Saved Victim, Then Drove Away

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. -- Evergreen Fire Rescue reported a pair of good samaritans not only rescued the driver of a burning vehicle in Clear Creek County, they then helped put out the fire burning the driver and his clothes.The injured man was driving his Dodge Caravan westbound on I-70 descending Floyd Hill on Saturday when the right front tire and wheel locked, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The vehicle clipped a guardrail post, caught fire and rolled into a pull-off near Mile Marker 245.The passerbys were driving on the frontage road, saw the crash and sprang into action. Evergreen Fire Rescue said a man reached into the burning car and pulled the burning driver to safety. He also used his own portable fire extinguisher to put out the fire burning the driver and his clothes.
The crash ignited small grass fires as it rolled across the pull-off and tumbled 240 feet to the frontage road where it continued burning and ignited the hillside leading back to I-70.Evergreen Fire/Rescue, Clear Creek Fire Authority, Clear Creek EMS and Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office personnel helped treat the patient while they also fought the fires.The crash victim was taken to the top of Floyd Hill where a Flight for Life transported him to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital. About an hour later, the patient was flown to University Hospital's burn center. There was no word on his condition Monday afternoon.The driver of the vehicle was wearing his seatbelt, according to the Colorado State Patrol.While rescuers were taking care of the victim and the fires, the good samaritan disappeared without leaving his name.
