GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The man wanted on suspicion of shooting a mother-to-be in an intersection in Grand Junction about 11:15 p.m. Sunday was arrested Monday afternoon.The 23-year-old victim was rushed to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction. The woman died. Police are not releasing her name. She was in her third trimester of pregnancy.Emergency medical personnel delivered the baby by Caesarean section. The hospital is not releasing information on the condition of the baby.
The pregnant woman was found lying in the intersection of N. 23 Road and Belford Avenue outside the Garden Village apartments.Grand Junction police say they arrested a man suspected in the shooting death. Lonnie Ray Herrera, 39, was arrested in Delta.Police said Herrera and the woman knew each other.Neighbors said it looked like she was shot once at point-blank range in the chest.Several neighbors heard the shot and the screaming just seconds later.
