EDGEWATER, Colo. -- A woman who was carjacked while getting gas at a King Soopers gas station in Edgewater is recounting the terrifying moments."I keep going over it and I don't think I could have done anything differently," said Kristin, who asked us not to use her last name since the carjacker remains at large. "It was still light out and there were all sorts of people around -- that is what is so scary."It happened Monday night shortly before 7 p.m. Kristin said she never saw the man until he was right in front of her. She said he asked for directions then pulled out a knife.
"It was all instinct," said Kristin. "I just screamed. I was like, 'He's got a knife, I am out of here.'"Surveillance video from King Soopers shows the carjacking although identifying the carjacker's face is not easy."It is a very general description, fits a lot of people," said Sgt. Mark Hamilton with the Edgewater Police Department. "The description alone is not going to lead us to anybody."But Edgewater police said hopefully someone will recognize the man. The carjacker cornered the woman between her car and the gas pump."He says either, 'Get out of the car' or 'Get in the car,'" said Kristin. "I couldn't make out what he said and as soon as I saw the knife, I screamed at the top of my lungs and I just ran as fast as I could."Kristin's dog, Portabella, was in the Honda Element at the time. It's unclear if the dog jumped out of the car or if the carjacker pushed her out before he took off.The man is described as a Hispanic male in his late 20s or early 30s. He had really short hair or a shaved head and a small goatee.
