DENVER -- Five months after the Colorado Rockies said a "malicious" attack paralyzed the club's online ticket sales for the World Series, charges have yet to be filed. But FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller in Los Angeles said there's still an ongoing investigation into the matter. The California ticketing company, Paciolan Inc. handled the sale, which had to be suspended when computer servers were overwhelmed.
Paciolan CEO Dave Butler said "denial-of-service" assaults overwhelmed company servers and left fans without tickets.Butler told the Rocky Mountain News the fiasco "was not the Rockies' fault," and said the FBI wouldn't still be investigating if it didn't believe there was a crime.Millions tried in October to purchase World Series tickets to games 3, 4, and 5 in Denver. Many fans were suspicious when the Rockies suspended the sale and said their ticketing site was the subject of an attack. Most fans 7NEWS had talked to believed that the Rockies were not prepared for the onslaught of requests -- from local fans anxious to see their team in its first World Series -- and from ticket resellers. The second time worked better as World Series tickets sold out 2½ hours after going on sale online. Still, thousands of fans people reported getting a "countdown page" that took them to a "page not found" or eventually, a frozen screen. Other frustrated fans reported they got to the point of picking seats and selecting online payment, then being timed out without getting a confirmation message. The Boston Red Sox swept the World Series with four wins in a row and Game 5 was never played in Denver.
