AULT, Colo. -- An infant is recovering in Children's Hospital after his mother rolled their vehicle along Highway 85 near Ault on Sunday.Cherub Acosta, 23, is accused of driving under the influence, careless driving and child abuse. The state patrol said Acosta was going about 80 mph when she lost control of the pickup truck, ran off the road and rolled into an irrigation ditch. The infant was in a car seat and was trapped until a trooper could free him.
Troopers said the infant was not properly restrained in the vehicle. A child under 1 year old and less the 20 pounds is required to be restrained in a rear-facing safety seat, troopers said. The infant was found to have no injuries. His mother, who was not wearing a seat belt, was seriously hurt. She was airlifted to Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
