LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Lakewood police are investigating a possible case of a police impersonator.A 17-year-old girl said she was driving on Morrison Road, just west of Kipling Parkway, Saturday night when she saw a white car with a single red light behind her. She pulled over. When he approached her car, he did not ask her for her license or registration, he only asked if the teen had been drinking and where she was going, the victim said.
Lakewood police said no other law enforcement agency made a traffic stop in the area at that time. The teen described the police impersonator as a white man wearing a dark blue short-sleeve uniform. The teen said she did not see any patches on the man's uniform and did not see a badge or a gun belt.Lakewood police said the man they are looking for is white, about 5 feet 9 inches tall, 215 pounds, with dark hair and dark eyes. He had a buzz cut and had a mustache. The victim noticed a scar on his right eyebrow by the temple and said he spoke in a deep voice.Lakewood detectives say if you have a question about the authenticity of someone trying to pull you over, acknowledge the person and then drive slowly to a well-lit and populated area before stopping. You can also call police to confirm if the person pulling you over is an officer. In the past officers have told 7NEWS if you pull over and are uncomfortable, roll your window down a short way and ask for a marked unit to come to the scene. If you can assist detectives in their investigation of this incident, call the Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.
