A Colorado Springs man is in custody after a battered woman was found in his car during a traffic stop Sunday.

Police said Richard Richmond had been drinking when he forced his ex-girlfriend into his car and beat her.

The 40-year-old woman was taken to the hospital to be treated for a concussion, lacerations and multiple contusions.

Police allege Richmond became jealous watching his ex-girlfriend flirt with another man at a downtown nightclub.

Richmond, 33, allegedly threatened to kill her and dump her body somewhere in the countryside.

He was pulled over after a police officer said he saw Richmond running a red light.

Richmond was arrested on charges of second-degree assault, kidnapping and numerous traffic violations, including driving under the influence.

He is being held at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
