Investigator holds piece of wood where man wrote murder confession.

Confession to 1893 Murder Found

Man Wrote Confession On Wall In Home

UPDATED: 5:31 pm MST March 6, 2008

It appears a murder confession found on the wall of a home in Fountain is real.

The writer confessed to killing a man near Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs in 1893, 115 years ago.

It was written with a pencil on wood.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation has ruled the wood is authentic to the late 1800s.

In the confession, John Spicer says he killed a man for about $5,000 in jewelry and cash.

He died in the 1940s.

A relative says she knew about the murder. She said she was told it was self-defense.

The piece of wood is going on display at the Fountain Valley Historical Society Museum.
