Church Security Goes Pro

Company Offers Church Security Workshops

POSTED: 6:49 pm MST February 28, 2008
UPDATED: 6:43 am MST February 29, 2008

In the wake of the church shootings at Colorado Springs, many Colorado congregations are voicing concerns about safety.

Most churches rely on volunteers to provide what security they have, and training is limited.

Because instructors have had so many requests, CZ Inc., a Colorado company specializing in security training, is launching workshops targeting security at churches.

Rabbi/Pastor Burt Yellin leads Congregation Roeh Isreal in Denver, and said his congregation has had a series of phone and written threats.

He is interested in attending a church security workshop.

"I don't want people to have to be afraid to come and worship. I want them to know we're doing everything necessary to protect them while they're here," said Yellin.

Workshops would include training in everything from emergency communications to evacuations to dealing with violent people.
