FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- The first-degree murder trial of Shawna Nelson began its second week in Fort Collins Monday. Nelson is accused of shooting her romantic rival Heather Garraus in Greeley last year. Last week, Garraus' husband and former Greeley police officer Ignacio Garraus testified he had an affair with Nelson that produced a child. He testified that he decided to stay with his wife and end his relationship with Nelson.
Nelson is the wife of a former Weld County investigator who is also charged tampering with evidence in the case. About three-dozen people who haven't testified yet remain on a list of witnesses who may be called to the stand. The trial was moved from Greeley to Fort Collins because it involved law enforcement from several Weld County agencies.Click here to read a Blog of the trial from 7NEWS reporter Lance Hernandez.
