DENVER -- A woman who claimed she was fondled by a police impersonator has admitted she made the story up Friday.Police first head about the incident by the woman's boyfriend, Daniel Ricci, early Saturday morning, said Boulder Sheriff spokesman Cmdr. Phil West.Ricci said his girlfriend, Sydney Potadle, told him she was inappropriately touched by a plain clothes police officer near 11th Street and Spruce Avenue, West said.
Police and sheriff's deputies investigated, interviewing Potadle and Ricci and began to notice inconsistencies in Ricci's story, he said.Investigators confronted Potadle with their suspicions and she admitted she had made the story up in order to "placate Mr. Ricci regarding her unexplained early morning absence from their residence," West said in a statement."She stated that she had never planned to make a police report and had never intended to pursue the complaint, but that the situation had gotten out of hand once Mr. Ricci called the police," he said. The sheriff's office does not plan to pursue charges.
