Sheriff Blotter: Woman Denies Hit-And-Run Despite Evidence On Car

Car Found With Red Marks

POSTED: 10:10 am MST February 19, 2008
UPDATED: 2:48 pm MST February 19, 2008

A citizen who witnessed a hit-and-run between a silver sports car and a red Subaru in a Summit County parking lot did more than call the sheriff. The witness got a license plate number of the silver sports car before it took off.

A sheriff's deputy responding to the call found a red Subaru with damage and paint scratched off. In the police report obtained by 7NEWS, the officer noted "the Subaru was pulled all the way in to the parking spot and was not sticking out into the roadway at all."

The officer then went in search of the other vehicle. Using the license plate number, he tracked the vehicle to a home in the Keystone area.

According to the sheriff's office report, the woman denied hitting another vehicle at least twice, even after the deputy told her a witness saw her hit the car and drive off.

The woman agreed to let the deputy see the car in the garage.

According to the sheriff's report, the deputy pointed out two long red scratches that appeared to be fresh. The woman told the deputy it had been there for years even though it appeared to be the only area where there were no dirt or mud on the car.

The woman was given a citation for unsafe backing and failure to report after striking a parked car. Then she admitted hearing some noise when she was backing up in a parking lot, but didn't think it was anything. The report also said the woman then told the deputy "it was the red cars fault because it was sticking out into the roadway" and that is why she hit it.

That's when the woman admitted to hearing something when she was backing up, but claimed it was the Subaru’s fault for sticking out in the roadway.
