POSTED: 10:46 am MST February 13, 2008
BOULDER, Colo. -- A man linked by DNA tests to a decade-old rape and beating death now faces multiple charges following an appearance in a Boulder court. Diego Olmos-Alcalde, 38, faces charges of murder, sexual assault, kidnapping and violating parole in the death of Susannah Chase, 23. She was a University of Colorado student when she was beaten to death with a baseball bat in December 1997. The case was unsolved until the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said it was able to match DNA from the crime scene to the suspect.
Olmos-Alcalde appeared in court Wednesday morning wearing an orange and white-striped prison uniform. He was handcuffed, with the cuffs attached to a chain around his waist. He waived his right to a preliminary hearing within 30 days. Chase was from Stamford, Conn.
