Police are asking for the public's help in identifying and locating a vehicle and its driver after three elementary school children said they were chased Thursday.

According to police the three boys, ages 8 to 10, were playing football on the field of Zerger Elementary at 9050 Field Street. As they left to walk home they crossed the street in front of the Kings Mill Pool at 9018 Field Street.

The boys said a yellow pickup truck passed the children then made a u-turn and stopped. The driver then got out of the pickup and chased the children before returning to the pickup and talking on his cell phone.

The children continued on to Sommerset Park at 9290 W. 90th Drive and saw the same pickup stop in the parking lot. They said the driver got out of the vehicle again and chsed them before returning to pickup and driving away.

The children ran to a nearby home and asked for help and were taken to Shephard of Valley Lutheran School, where they are students.

Police want to talk to the driver of the pickup, described as a newer model yellow Chevrolet with a paper license plate in the window. The driver was described as a Hispanic or white man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with an athletic build.

Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to call the Westminster Communication Center at 303-430-2400, ext. 5.

"Parents are reminded to take this opportunity to reinforce safe behaviors with their children," police said in a news release." Tell your child to always walk with a friend, and to be aware of their surroundings. If a stranger approaches, be sure that your child knows what to do: yell or shout, run away and immediately tell an adult. Impress upon your child the importance of going straight to school and coming home immediately after dismissal, or leaving the bus stop."
