757 Diverted To Grand Junction Over Smoke In Cabin

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- An American Airlines flight from New Jersey to California made an emergency landing in Grand Junction Wednesday night after smoke was reported in the cabin.The Boeing 757 from Newark to Los Angeles landed at Grand Junction Regional Airport without incident at about 10:15 p.m.Passengers on Flight 119 said there was "haze" in the plane accompanied by a "a bad smell."
Passengers and crew members were immediately evacuated with the help of the Grand Junction police and fire departments and airport officials. No one was hurt. Fire officials used thermal imaging equipment to try to find the source of the problem, and later said the haze and smell came from a small fire in the back of the plane. Another plane was sent to Grand Junction to take the passengers on to Los Angeles.
