DENVER -- For 5 terrifying minutes, a 27-year-old pizza delivery woman was sexually assaulted by two men on New Year's Eve.Her description of both and a cut she gave one of them on the face helped bring the arrests of a father and son.Lawrence Garcia, 48, and Daniel Garcia, 18, were each charged with felony sexual assault and unlawful sexual contact with force.
The woman had delivered pizza to a home at 46th Avenue and Race Street at about 7 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2007. She was paid by a woman inside the home. While she was walking back to her car, two men followed her and attacked her, she said.In police documents, Denver officer Mike Kellogg writes "Daniel and Lawrence Garcia asked the victim if she wanted to stay and party with them. The victim refused."Later, the officer writes, "Daniel Garcia grabbed the victim's right arm while his father grabbed the victim's left arm, both holding the victim so she could not leave. Lawrence Garcia kissed the victim on the face and mouth and using his left hand unbuttoned and unzipped the victim's pants."At one point, Daniel Garcia allegedly said, "Daddy's gonna get him some," according to police documents. The younger Garcia kept holding the victim while his father sexually assaulted her, police said. The woman was eventually able to scratch the younger man's face, break free and get to her car to notify police. The two men fled in a red car and were arrested a short time later, after the woman gave police descriptions of her alleged assailants and their vehicle."I was just thinking, you know, that's crazy to jump on a pizza delivery woman. I don't see why anybody would do something like that," said Jonathan Evans, who lives next door to the Garcias."They're pretty nice, quiet people," he said of the Garcias.Lawrence and Daniel Garcia remained in custody Friday in the Denver County Jail after the victim was able to positively identify both as her attackers."She doesn't know these attackers. There's no personal relationship between them, obviously. So, it is disturbing," said Lynn Kimbrough, spokeswoman for the Denver District Attorney's office. The woman and the pizza company she works for were not identified."I did have a chance to talk with the victim's family last night. She's doing all right. She's trying to spend time with family because that's helping her through the trauma of this," Kimbrough said. The Garcias are scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Jan. 7 to be formally advised of the charges against them.
