GREELEY, Colo. -- A Catholic priest arrested in Frederick by a police officer who said he was walking nude will stand trail after entering a not guilty plea Tuesday. The Rev. Robert Whipkey's case has attracted nationwide attention following his June 22 arrest on charges of indecent exposure. The off-duty police officer said he saw Whipkey walking nude on a city street at about 4:30 a.m. Whipkey allegedly told the officer he was walking home after jogging at Frederick High School, according to police.
Whipkey, of Saint Teresa's Parish, told the officer he jogged naked because he sweats a lot, according to an arrest affidavit. The officer was heading home from work when he said he spotted the nude priest.A lawyer for the priest requested a jury trial when the case is heard.Robyn Ciaravola, who lives across the street from Whipkey’s home at the St. Theresa rectory in Frederick, told the Longmont Times-Call last summer that she has often seen Whipkey walking around naked through a window of his home during the three years she’s lived in the house."All of his drapes are always open, and he’s basically nude in the house," she said. "I have no problem with what someone does in his house, but he should close the drapes."The Denver Archdiocese placed Whipkey on administrative leave.
