Abortion Protesters Allowed To Keep Demonstrating

Protestors Demonstrate Outside Of Contractor's Home

Protesters in Greenwood Village will be allowed to continue demonstrating outside a contractor's home.

The group is protesting outside the home because the homeowner is in the construction business, and he's helping to build a new Planned Parenthood facility in Denver.

The Greenwood Village city council voted Monday night to limit protests essentially to daylight hours. They also limited the size of signs to 2 feet in width or 3 square feet in total area.

Those who have protested outside Planned Parenthood facilities for years applauded the city council's decision.

"Not only are our unborn children being killed, but our mother's are being damaged," said Jo Scott, who opposes abortion.

"When you kill in the womb, it leads to bloodshed on the streets," said Scott, as she stood on a ladder outside the Planned Parenthood facility at 20th and Vine. She was trying to get the attention of men and women walking in and out of the facility.

But many parents in the neighborhoods where the protests are happening are outraged by the large signs that feature images of aborted fetuses and babies.

"The bus stop is only a few feet away," said one mother, who asked not to be identified. "They talk about being advocates for kids and yet they are frightening them on a daily basis. I don't think exposing our children to pictures of aborted babies is going to stop abortion from happening."

Planned Parenthood also responded to the controversial protests.

"The contractors are heroes. (They) are helping us to build better access to health care," said Vicki Cowart, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Rockies. Planned Parenthood of the Rockies has been in business for 90 years in Denver.

"It is not just an abortion clinic, it is comprehensive reproductive health care for women," said Cowart.
